More than 25 teams signed up for the big event – Boys teams, girls teams, mixed teams, mixed ages, mixed classes, and even a teacher team readied themselves for the
volleyball competition. Matches started at 21.30. In the first round of the tournament all teams played the other teams in their group. Cheered on by many classmates, the group stage lasted until approx 1.45 am. The play-off rounds then continued until 2.40 am in a one loss and you’re out tempo.
The teacher team went all the way to the semi-finals losing a heart-breaker to Bomans Boys. The final match was played between Fnils & Co and Bomans Boys. Congratulations to Fnils & Co who won a hard-fought final.
The entire event was organized by our School Sports Committee – student organized, student run, student led …
Participation was huge, not only with actual players, but also with many student supporters there to cheer on their friends. Enthusiasm, energy, good sportmanship and athletic ability characterized the night.
How can a night volleyball tournament played between 21.30 and 2.45am increase the learning at VRG?
For some students, they get the opportunity to be leaders with the practical experience of organizing and implementing a large event. For others, it is the opportunity to practice what they have learned in sports class. For most of us, it is a way to build a strong school culture – where we value each other’s efforts, like to have fun, work together as a team, and play to win.
Thanks School Sports Committee and Sports teachers for organizing and supporting such a great school event!
