Rollspel i historia/ Role play in History – it’s like you were there

In this annual role play at VRG, students gain a deeper understanding of their own nation’s role, as well as the cooperation between nations, taking place during World War I.  Students are assigned different countries to “represent”. Prior to the start of the activity, all students prepare questions for other nations to answer.  These questions provide the foundation for the discussions.  The students’ understanding of their own nation’s role in the war is the basis for assessment, as well as the questions they ask and answer other nations during the activity.  Together, they even discuss and work out what will happen next.  This role play activity is often mentioned as the “most fun” assignment in course evaluations.  Students comment that working with open-ended questions and open discussion as brings down the stress level and gives them a deeper understanding of these important events.  And, you get to dress up – a funny bonus!

About kristylundstrom

I currently work as Head at Viktor Rydberg Gymnasium in Djursholm. I am a student of learning. I am interested to see where it happens, when it happens, and how it happens. I am also a math and computer science teacher. I have lived in Belgium and in the USA. I really appreciate my multi-cultural environment - I believe it adds dynamics to our school.
