Rollspel i historia/ Role play in History – it’s like you were there

rollspel1Genom rollspelet får eleverna en djupare förståelse för den egna nationens roll men även samspelet med de andra nationerna under första världskriget. Alla elever har på förhand arbetat med frågor som sedan ligger till grund för rollspelet. Eleverna bedöms sedan på deras förmåga att se den egna nationens roll i händelserna men även utifrån de frågor de ställer till andra nationer. Tillsammans reder de även ut vad dessa händelser kommer att leda till. Rollspelet är ett av de moment som de flesta elever anger som det moment som var roligast i kursutvärderingen varje år med motiveringen att arbetssättet med öppna frågor underlättar deras studier och drar ner stressen samt att de får en djup förståelse för händelserna. Att man sen får klä ut sig är en rolig bonus!

In this annual role play at VRG, students gain a deeper understanding of their own nation’s role, as well as the cooperation between nations, taking place during World War I.  Students are assigned different countries to “represent”. Prior to the start of the activity, all students prepare questions for other nations to answer.  These questions provide the foundation for the discussions.  The students’ understanding of their own nation’s role in the war is the basis for assessment, as well as the questions they ask and answer other nations during the activity.  Together, they even discuss and work out what will happen next.  This role play activity is often mentioned as the “most fun” assignment in course evaluations.  Students comment that working with open-ended questions and open discussion as brings down the stress level and gives them a deeper understanding of these important events.  And, you get to dress up – a funny bonus!
