During our two theme days, year 2 students learned about the balance between feeling well and doing well. In a series of activities entitled “Seize the Day/Fånga Livet“, students danced, meditated, played games, attended lectures, participated in workshops and reflected over their own situation.
The series began with a lecture by Lotta Björklind. Lotta is a professor at Stockholm University who shared a psychodynamic view of health.
Following the lecture, students gathered in smaller groups for reflection and then watched the documentary series: Hjärnans födelse och död to better understand how the brain functions during the teenage years.

On the second day, students participated in a workshop about how to recognize and react when someone around you uses manipulation and suppression techniques/ Härskartekniker. And, how to speak and present your ideas in a way that does not offend anyone.
In the afternoon, students were allowed to choose an activity from different creative stations – grass games, mindfulness with art, hip-hop dancing, juggling and more.
The evaluations showed that some students were very happy and wish to continue learning more about these topics. Others are interested in the topics, but wish to learn in new ways. As always, we got very helpful feedback from our students.
Having different experiences and learning in new ways show students that there exist a variety of ways to find your own personal “balance“.
The idea of “balance” is something we will be working on all year with these students …
